Dad and daughters

Tonight me and the girls are hanging out. I have a soundtrack for this photo to help you feel like you're actually in Castle Rock on a Monday evening with us. Go to http://www.neilyoung.com/prairiewind.html and click on "It's a Dream."

Julia's in my lap as I type. Lauren's crawling around the room looking for another crayon to eat. Chanel ran out for a few minutes. When she returns we'll be whole. In an hour Julia will go to sleep, Lauren will snooze for an hour and then scream like mad. Julia will yell in her sleep just loud enough to get one of us out of bed to check on her, but not loud enough to wake herself up. We live with howling nocturnal kids, and sometimes it's very frustrating. But put $1 million in front of me and ask me which I prefer and I'll flush the money down the toilet. Soon enough Chanel and I will get eight hours of sleep a night as our girls sleep peacefully. Until then, we'll enjoy the fact that it's us they want at night.

Missed it by that much

Luke and Sandy came to visit us from Vegas this weekend. We went to Boulder today, which is a perfect example of a college town. We ate at The Sink for lunch. The restaurant serves fantastic food in an artsy, bohemian-style setting. I had a veggie burger and vegetables. Upon completing the meal I proclaimed it the best veggie burger and vegetables I have ever eaten. We'll definitely go back the next time we're in the area.

The real purpose of this blog, however, is to lament the fact that I was three seats away from catching a foul ball at Coors Field Thursday night. That is one of my dreams: to catch a foul ball at a major league park. There was a family with children sitting next to us, and of course they were excited to catch the ball. But honestly, if I was thinking clearly, I probably would have jumped right in front of the little kid and caught the ball with my bare hands "like a man," as Luke would say.

I am going to catch a ball someday. And when I do, I'm going to write the longest blog ever in honor of the monumental achievement. If you look at the picture closely, you can see the lucky family that walked away with the ball seated to my right.

I was so close.

My Sgt. Pepper's

The Beatles's 1967 album cover is still the coolest cover ever, next to, of course, the White album. The more people you can identify on it, the more you feel like you belong to a hip club, a club with very few members.

I've decided to make my own Sgt. Pepper's cover. The SP cover has 87 people and/or items, so I'll match that number. I will deviate from their format slightly, though. A collection of people, such as a music group or a sports team, will count as one item. The list is in no particular order, so don't get offended if you are listed as number 67. But, if you're number 1, you're probably pretty important to me.
